These figures do not change the predictions on this site.
Only the effective sunspot number is fed to the propagation engine — it is the
one input ITU-R P.533 takes. Kp, solar flux and alerts are shown here for your own
judgement. Every prediction on the reach map and path planner assumes
quiet geomagnetic conditions, so during a storm they read optimistic.
The interpretations are rules of thumb , not predictions. They
describe what an index usually means for the bands. For an actual circuit at an
actual time, use the
path planner or the
reach map , which run the real model.
Solar flux appears twice because two organisations estimate it
differently: NOAA measures the 10.7 cm flux at Penticton, while KC2G derives an
equivalent figure from its ionosonde fit. They usually agree closely; when they do
not, that disagreement is itself information.
